On April 9th, our little angel turned one! I remember the day we brought her home and how nervous and exhausted Grady and I were. But I just couldn't wait to learn all about my little cubbie. Her little personality started coming out very early on. She is such a sweet, happy, social, and easy going little girl. She loves her friends and family and experiencing new things. Seeing the world through her eyes is truly amazing. Every day with her, she does something to make me laugh or smile. The past year, we have learned about some of Demí's likes and dislikes. Likes: books (especially touch and feel ones), walking toys, dancing to Toddler Tunes, bathy time, nursing (she squeezes her fist together and says 'ma' for milk), dogs, being tickled on her ribs, stroller rides, going to the ChildWatch at the YMCA, playing with other babies, waving to Daddy when he comes home from work. Dislikes: being on her back to get her diaper changed, fruit, sitting still in church. You know, that was actually pretty difficult trying to think of things she doesn't like! She is such a great baby!
On Saturday, Grady and I hosted a birthday party to celebrate this wonderful year. We invited all our family and close friends. The weather was BEAUTIFUL and I loved spending time with all of my friends. We had friends come from all over the state - Eric and Angela Schuchardt came into town from Houston so that Demí could meet their little one, Kellyn. Amberly drove in from Pearland and was a huge help (I owe her big time for helping me get ready and clean up), and Auntie Courtney and Uncle Evan drove in from Dallas.
The party was a huge success. Demí was exhausted after such a big day - she slept from 3:30 until around 5, then went to sleep for the night at 7:45. She woke up at 9:30am!!! That is the latest she has ever slept (14 hours straight!!!!) Plus, on Sunday, she took 2 two hour naps!!
So glad to finally meet you, Kellyn! (I have to apologize for the consecutive pictures of these two, but they crack me up!)
Demí was beyond thrilled to meet Kellyn. Not so sure about Kellyn. Perhaps she could have been distracted by the 5 cameras that were on her.
What a little ham! Demí was actually posing for the pictures. Kellyn is thinking - seriously guys, how many are you going to take?!?!
You can find the babies near the dogs...
...and the guys near the keg.

Giving her Pampa some sugar. Demí is not a shy or clingy baby, but I think she might have been a little overwhelmed when everyone came over. She only wanted her Pampa to hold her! So precious!
The weather was perfect for an outdoor get together!

Of course her Sassue got her a tiara that lit up and sparkled.
A lot of Demí's little friends came to the celebration, including her best little girlfriend from daycare - Paloma! Look at that sweet little face!

Sassue and Papa D brought her birthday cake - fit for a princess!!! It tasted just as great as it looked! The bottom layer was chocolate with fudge filing and the second tier was white with raspberry custard. The top crown was edible too!
Blowing out one candle
First taste of cake and ice cream. I expected her to dig in when we put it in front of her, but she is such a dainty eater, she preferred Grady to feed her with a spoon! But she wasn't shy about it - she ate all of her ice cream and about a third of that giant piece of chocolate cake!
Hey mommy and daddy - don't even think of eating my cake!!!
YAY! I am so happy to have cake and ice cream for the first time!
What great friends we have! Marissa with baby Lyla and big sister Sofia, Kelly (pregnant with baby girl #2) with Logan, and Ali and the birthday girl!

Walking with mommy

Demí with mommy and Auntie Courtney. We can't wait for Demí to meet her cousin in July!
Kellyn after the cake and ice cream. She is such an adorable little baby! She never stops smiling...except when she is racked out!

What a sweetheart

Yay me!
I can't eat this?!?! Mimi gave her this precious little birthday cake that lights up, sings happy birthday, and then you can actually blow the candles and the lights go off! After you blow the candles out, the toy makes a cheering sound, so of course, Demí claps everytime.

Happy birthday girl!

Opening the first of many gifts!

You doing okay in there, babydoll? This was one of her favorite gifts (from Jaxon). She spent most of Sunday pushing around her little baby.
Every party MUST have a pinata (at least in San Antonio it does!)
